The attached sMath file is an attempt to add "current page" background images. One image per page. It work find for the first two pages, but the third one get skipped and the image appeared on the fourth page.

dc dc buck converter.sm (736kb) downloaded 42 time(s).
Basic Calculation of a Buck Converter Power Stage.pdf (203kb) downloaded 34 time(s).

The goal here is to study technical document by overlaying sMath formula, graph and other elements on top of the background images.

Also attached, the original PDF file and the png images for each pages.

Also, it is not obvious how to remove background images, either "All" or "Current page". I couldn't remove the ones in the attached sMath file.

Thank you for your help

Best regards
Guy

Oups, I didn't know that the images would appear full size. I am sorry, but I dont know how to to it otherwise.

I did not know that several background images can be inserted. Actually, I do not know how to do it either. But as workaround you can edit the sm file for correct the position of the image on page 3.

Clipboard01.gif

dc dc buck converter.sm (736kb) downloaded 19 time(s).

Best regards.
Alvaro.

Thank you for this way around. First time I venture into a sm file. I will give it a try.

As for how to do it, just select "Background..." in the "Insert" menu. You will see the background setting window.

As I mention in the post, part of that UI is not obvious. It is hard to tell if you have already selected a "Current page" background. Also the default setting seem to reset itself each time you quit the window. The expected behavior would be to reflect the setting of the current page or the whole document.

Editing the file worked first try. That is great :-) The sm format is pretty simple, nice to see that.

I found a PDF plugin here : https://ru.smath.info/vi...8e2-06a01fd2b5cc/summary

It does almost what I was trying to do. Except it import all PDF pages as a document image instead of a background image.

Nevertheless, their are still problem with sMath "Background" fonctions. Even after correcting the sm file, I was not able to add an other background image to the file using sMath UI. I did not test yet if I was able to do that by editing the sm file. More to follow...

Just wrongdoing ... Ah !

Simply, capture image from what's on screen from any source [web page, Smath document ...]
Paste the image in the Smath document you want.
You can PrintScreen, paste in Paint, select, copy/paste in Smath.
My preferred capture tool is WinGrab [freeware], once selected/cropped, "Save as" [*.PNG ...]
... save in a dedicated folder in C:\ Snippets [Snippets is typical in my system]
You can recall any image you have saved, paste in Smath, of original size high quality.
If some image you have captured are to big [mostly from some web tutorials], easy to manage.
That/those particular too big/too small images => paste in IrfanView [freeware].
At this point: you can "Resize/re-Sample" by any % zoom ±, best quality Lanczos.
In IrfanView, you can inverse colors [any/all channels], sharpen crappy captured ...

Ton voisin de Drummondville te salut ! Un petit café quand tu passes ?

Next minutes, I will post for help solving Maximize in Smath,
Two images from Mathcad as they are in the other machine.

Jean

Hello.

This issue was fixed in one of previous betas: https://en.smath.info/fo...58--11-October-2018.aspx (see "Incorrect pages numbers used in Insert Background dialog fixed for Pages layout mode;" in changelog).

Hello, I have done a quick test with 5 pages (inserting 5 different background images), and the issue I had is fixed.

Thank you for all :-)

I will still look to update the PDF plugin, I think it can be augmented to add multiple pages (selected pages) from a pdf document. For a small number of pages, using the background image function is workable, but for anything over 5 pages, it is a tedious task.

Best regards
Guy

Wow this is a fresh take on checking a calculation book or annotating a paper:

if we could import PDF into SMath as background images (PDF plugin update?), one could just overlay SMath calcs onto existing PDF and the print it to PDF.

Alternatively one could come up with a vb code for script region to do creating a .sm file with all backgrounds in it

Yes Alex, you pick up the spirit :-)

I do many scientific review each years, and having the article in the background could be a wonderful feature that increase productivity. One could study articles, course notes, any PDF documents overlapping or replicating various variables, functions, tables, graphs, etc. and trying different inputs and having the effect of that in real time.

There is a PDF plugin here https://en.smath.info/view/PdfFilesPlugin/summary

I believe it need some work to do what we are talking.

Here is a link to the OpenSource code of it on SVN : https://smath.info:8443/!/#public/view/head/plugins/PdfFileType

This peanut demo is 2.65 kB. You can have as many regions as you wish,
of any colors out of 1677216 possible colors. The background is OK
by the Print Preview, thus will be saved on virtual *.PDF printer.

This background region is not an imported image, neither an image
created by Smath. Thus, every time you save and at the opening of
the document, Smath complains it can find ... because it is not
really created ... just an incomplete fake. So, on the complain
just click OK to stop Smath suffering.

Hello Jean, if you open the sample file (dc dc buck converter.sm) I posted in the first post, you will see what is the intent here. The background image is an image of a full page from a PDF document.

All like this:
1. 2 months ago, I open your *.sm ... all pieces of Smath scattered in ~ 10 pages.
All anywhere in the page ... though nothing to do.
2. Today: open again, realign/space like normal ... toke ~ 15 min
3. Then guess what ,,,
4. Suddenly, Texas stuff appeared dead like stone,
good thing a bit off right of Smath formulas.

COMMENTS:

Generally, there is nothing to do from "Papers" on several counts:
1. Latex is not maths, just just gyzmas ... typical => Dirac ket and bra [bra-ket]
For bra-ket, it toke a grand Physicist like Frank Rioux to make it work in Mathcad.
2. Of the zillions visits web stuff over > 20 years, only 4 where useful maths based.
_ Ristesky Pseudo-inverse
_ Old vintage Mathcad stuff
_ Legendre xi, wi web data table that pasted nice in Smath data vector
_ more recent => Frank Rioux Mathcad *.PDF's

To be of any use in Smath for dead documents [PDF ...] I can see the Capture Technique
i.e: capture pieces, save as images, insert in Smath document.
Then you can move the pieces wherever most convenient in the Samth working regions.

Rbert A. told me one day: Jean, there are many ways to skin a cat
I guess true as well in Smath

Andrey, this tweak just added a whole new horizon of uses of SMath for me, thank you!!!!!

Fresh example of use to annotate with image region (this is neat!)
Basic Calculation of a Buck Converter Power Stage.pdf (197kb) downloaded 31 time(s). Basic Calculation of a Buck Converter Power Stage.sm (2,532kb) downloaded 30 time(s).

Wonderful addition to SMath !!!

I did some tests:

1- SMath 99 (build 6877) and PDF Files Plugin 1.0.684.36970
2- From a new sm file
3- File + Open
4- Selected a 8 pages PDF file
5- The PDF first page appeared as an image in the background as expected. But only one page in the sm document. To see the other PDF pages I need to add sm pages manually.

Thank you very much

Best regards

this procedure works for me

- launch smath
- open multipage pdf file
- save files as file.sm
- switch to page view (bottom right button)
- generate all the pages of the pdf file that need moving with mause or arrows
- IMPORTANT: insert something smath at least on the last page
- print as pdf for result
