Dear Masters,

The SMath Studio program could not be properly initialized and displayed after updating with 6179 in my laptop PC.

The OS is Windows10 Home 64bit.

I tried it with the SMath Desktop and mono version also and had same results.
I deleted the 6179 and tested with old version, but I had same results.
I attached a video captured.

Please, help me.

In short, you are saying Smath does not open at all.
1. Backup all your previous "Smath stuff"
2. Evaporate Smath from Laptop.
3. Download 6179, Install and try to open.

I'm not very sure how to evaporate Smath.
Was so simple in three steps Mathcad Registry.

Dear Masters,

I've already updated all plugins which are available.
I've uninstalled it and reinstalled it several times by using windows control panel.
Would you mind explaining how to 'evaporate Smath'?

The maxima plugin does not work under Win 10. The unofficial portable distribution should work, however.
Just take care to launch the correct executable (that one in the expanded archive). Open files from within that SMath instance or drag files to an open instance. Just double-clicking sm documents probably will launch the installed version.

See attached instruction, how to handle portable versions. I strongly recommend to test portable versions before updating the installed version.

I did not see any reason to approach Win 10 and when I bought a new computer some months ago, insisted on Win 7 being installed.

Before evaporating (deep uninstall), go to %APPDATA% (type it in the start menu or in the address bar of a folder), then rename the SMath folder to something else; then try to run again SMath. You should obtain the same result of making a clean portable version (see post above of Martin Kraska).

Hello Martin,

I don't understand "Maxima plugin does not work under Win 10"
Does it mean if I purchase a Win 10 new PC, all Maxima dependent
stuff won't work anymore from previous Win 7 backup ?

Is it otherwise: Smath 6179 Maxima is dead on Win 10 ?

Whichever way, there is a bad news in there, isn't ?

Jean

Yes.

At least other users say so, I placed a corresponding warning on my support page.

I can't do anything about it, as I don't have a win 10 machine and am not going to have one soon. But if someone finds a solution, I'll be happy to adopt it.

A virtual win7 box on a win10 or whatever host should do for now and ever.

Dear Davide,

Thank yopu for your kind guide to 'evaporate SMath'.
I tried update the plugins for the clean portable version.
I found the 'Image region' plugin makes the trouble in my laptop.

Wonderful! We'll try to find what cause the issue in that plugin.

BTW I'm pretty sure this already happened to another user, but I wasn't able to find that post. Wallbash

I would go same way for Mathcad

1. from control panel: uninstall Smath Studio
2. from C root: click on "Window" to expand
3. browse for the icon "regedit"...click 'Yes' to open the registry tree
4. open each category and browse in software/programs...
5. look for "Smath stuff" .sm, .smz, Smath, Andrey Ivashov ...what else ?
6. each item: remove from registry
7. once done: go back to where Smath was installed [usually Program Files]
8. DELETE this folder.

Now, your PC should be "evaporated of Smath"

Unless I have missed some things.

It is most important this procedure is checked/confirmed/updated.

Jean
