Hello,
it would be nice to have a table-function similar to mathcad to create tables inside a SMath-document. Like Mathcad you should adress the cells by it's "column/row-coordinates".

Hello, I do not know if you tried this nice utility SMathMatrixEditorYou can use SMath matrix like a table and edit the matrix contents as well. Regards, Radovan |

Nice idea - but doesn't work. I tried to run this program under windows (winxp64) - I get an error message, I tried this program under linux (ubuntu with wine) - program starts, but the insert-button doesn't work And it seems to me, that this program is not the solution for my "problem". I use paperprints of my calculations for discussions. In my calculations I have to put some values to some variables, depending on the results of prior calculations. The values are changing - e.g. 0.5 if x is smaller 10, 1.5 for x bigger 10. To show these relations I usually use a picture of a word-table now, what isn't very smart. I can't change the numbers inside the table, nor can I use the numbers for an automated assignment. To put these numbers inside a matrix is a posibility, but not realy good readable for humans (many of them are still running with brain 1.0 ;-) Something like a "table:="-function would be the nicer way. I wil try to make a "SMath version" of that. Regards, Oscar

I think this is the mathcad function which he spoke (just type "Mathcad Input Tables" in google.com for more results) |

Hello, Mathcad tables and matrices are quite similar. Actually, accessing the table and matrix elements are the same. SMath matrices can satisfy most of the user's needs, imho. If we need tables, we can use matrices most of the time. In my opinion, one of the most useful uses of Tables in Mathcad is when you have a large data set including importing from and exporting to a data file. On the other hand, a drawback of matrix implementation in SMath is the problem of working with larger matrices. With large data set we can use importData() function for importing data (exportData() not implemented yet). But if we want to see the entire large matrix at once, there could be a problem. SMath does not have something like a windowed matrix presentation with sliders to the right and on the top of the matrix (like matrices and tables in Mathcad). Radovan,
Yes, the exe file. I click and get error messages in Windows XP and SMath 0.93.

Hi, I made a picture of the 2 possibilities: left side - current situation with a matrix right side - table Matrix is a possible way, but I think the table is better human-readable. Regards Jochen

Hello Jochen, jabadu wrote:Matrix is a possible way, but I think the table is better human-readable. I think I understand your point. I also think that the feature like this one depends on the SMath author. I am not a programer and have no idea if this even could be made in SMath. Regards, Radovan |

Jabadu, I think SMath development is not progressing in the direction you are interested in. What you need is ability to create simple documents, understood by anyone who reads them. This is an engineering approach, this is how Mathcad is being developed. SMath's main area of interest is not engineering. Implementation of physical units is very limited, presentation of calculations is old-school, and so on. I gave up. Having said this, I still don't use Prime :-) Konrad

Hello Konrad,
I'm not that pessimistic for the engineering approach. Yes - it would be nice to have a nicer font for the formulas, but I can live with it. Yes - it would be nice to have a better solution for changing the text fonts, but I can live with it. Yes - it would be nice to format the formulas (e.g. make results bold), but I can live with it. Yes - it would be nice to resize inserted pictures, but I can live with it. And yes - it would be nice to have tables (instead using matrices), but I can live with it (more or less).
The implementation of physical units is good enough for me - I can user-define missing ones if needed.
I can understand that the main development is on maths things. For now I can live with the so-so engineering approach. Lets see what the future brings...
Regards Jochen

Hello. jabadu wrote:Yes - it would be nice to resize inserted pictures, but I can live with it. Here is modified Picture Region: PictureRegion_093.mod.zip (unpack it and replace the dll with the same name in the plugins folder of SMath Studio). It has Resize ability and two new context menu items. This version of Picture Region will be built in to the next SMath Studio release. Best regards, Andrey Ivashov.
