Hello,

I saved my smath file yesterday after having added a lot of locked regions.
Today I have troubles opening my file : it opens but only displays a very small part of the content...
I have also noticed that it is strangely big (about 70000 Ko).
Someone please help me to recover my file?

Cécile

That is a quite challenging task without having the file...

I know, but it's far too big to be uploaded here...
First I can try to send you a version of what is left of my document.
If you cannot do anything with it, maybe I can try to upload it on a drop box?

Thanks for answering anyway...
Cécile

Hello Cécile,

try to zip it, otherwise you can make a folder with your name in the forum_attach folder of the wiki (max 20Mb) or you can use a dropbox link Good

Hi Cécile,

All the data is encrypted inside an area region, so I guess that the only way to attempt to solve your issue is to contact the developer (smath)

Best regards,

Davide

I have managed to find an old file, so I think I will restart from here...

I can open the file and I see one collapsed area. When I try to open the area I am prompted for a password which I don't have.

When I try to open the file again with the Area plugin disabled (trying to recover what is not in an area) I get an error "System out of memory".

I don't get this error when I open the file directly with the disabled plugin.

Anyway, those cases where you loose your data because it is overwritten by a corrupted version are a major reason not to use Smath Studio in a productive environment. Sadly I never had a reproducible case to report but it happened to me several times.

Did you experience situations when file was so large even if it contain just couple of regions?
The issue described in this topic looks unique for me. I don't see that any data lost, but I see no reason for such a big file size... Working to figure it out.

OK, Maybe it's not worth to spend time on it if I was the only person reporting this trouble.
Anyway, you are now aware it happened once...
thanks to every one who tried.

Corrupted work sheet is not peculiar to Smath. In the process of doing something,
the system does not queue correctly and the work sheet may be partially corrupted,
even worse: TOTALLY corrupted , nothing to do, reconstruct from blank sheet.
In Win XP, a corrupted sheet may appear as an yellow icon 'scrap'. If you open
Word first and slide 'scarp' in Word, it will show what's left as far as Word can
interpret Smath. It did work in Mathcad 11 ,,, as far as work means.
