Hi All,

Maybe this issue has been resolved somewhere in the forum already I'm not aware of.

I spotted a strange behavior of the definite integral of the exponential function raised up to any power larger than one whenever the "Maxima" plugin is installed. The problem will go away when MaximaTakeover "none" is set for SS version prior to "0.98_xxxx". Starting from "0.98_xxxx", I have to disable the "Maxima" plugin from the plugin manager in order to resolve the issue.

Try to run the attached worksheet using both the most recent SS version and the portable version for comparison, then you may see my question more clearly. sm-qn001.sm (54kb) downloaded 20 time(s).

Any clue?

Thanks in advance,

Jason

N.B.: I'm using Maxima 5.34.1 (on Windows 7 Home Premium). I tried the most recent version and still get the same observation. I have also tried a clean installation of SS. No problem without any plugin. Reproducible observation once the "Maxima" plugin is installed.

I too face the same problem in definite integrals in all my SS files under 98, with Maxima 5.34.1.
These SS files ran fine under 97.

Try integrate GID style [GID => Get It Done]. Works well.
Quite a long epansion ! Does not plot otherwise than GID.

Read more in the attached. Your Int[exp(x^3)] is DEFINITIVELY wrong
and DEFINITLY wrong ... Why ? Plot first ... so what ?
So what: the inetegrator is kitchen style, totally incapable of
integrating in the infinite limit. As it looks in the range 0..2
the result is X^huge ...X^zillions. Alternately it might be possible
to use Legendre method. There may be an example in Samples. Still you will
have to compose Legendre coefficients from the web. From recollection they
are tabulated up to 50. A quick way is to tabulate exp(x^3) and use the
FD [Finite Differences] integrator.

The maple GAMMA may not have the Smath equivalent ... another puzzle .

Cheers, Jean

Windows XP does not take - [minus] as a separator
it takes (name) , does it take (1) not sure.
I much prefer using [square brackets].... [rev 0], [rev 1]

Just rename your file. If I can plot your F1(t), one way
or another, you will have your integral.
Just annoying it fails from one Smath version to another.

ndtma,
You have other plugins that may not be playing nice ...
ndtma.PNG
I had to update "Custom Functions" and download "Writer Region"
Also, in lieu of the SS version ..., use the new built in "appversion(3)=" function Good
Looking at your sheet as I write this, but wanted to point out the other plugins.

Confirmed Maxima crash ...

The two plugins were already updated.

Before writing to the forum, I tried a clean re-installation of SS 98.5935 with minimum required plugins installed and updated.
But still the problem with Maxima plugin remains.

By the way how do you use "appversion"?
